The final concert of our 20th anniversary season is a celebration of our symphony’s first-ever performance of a Brahms symphony. Johannes Brahms proved himself the heir to the throne of Beethoven—his powerful, evocative, and highly romantic 4th Symphony (first movement) will be a spectacular accomplishment for the Symphony of the Hills outstanding musicians. Anyone who loves orchestral music and the Texas Hill Country will want to be in the Kathleen Cailloux Theater for this special performance. We will open the concert with a brilliant piece played by the symphony 20 years ago—Rimsky-Korsakov’s inspiring “Procession of the Nobles.” Following the Rimsky-Korsakov, symphony concertmaster Phil Johnson, assistant conductor and principal second violin Pat Lee, assistant concertmaster Ryan Coppin, and longtime symphony violinist Theresa Britt will perform the Concerto for Four Violins by Antonio Vivaldi.

Our finale will be the majestic first movement of Brahms’ Symphony No. 4. This concert will be an inspiring testament to the power of music to express and share our deepest emotions following a challenging year. We hope for the joy and connection that our next season brings. See you in April!

Dear Symphony of the Hills’ Family,

The final concert of our 20th anniversary season is a celebration of something new:  our symphony’s first-ever performance of a Brahms symphony. Johannes Brahms proved himself the heir to the throne of orchestral composition after Beethoven—his powerful, evocative, and highly romantic 4th Symphony (first movement) will be a spectacular accomplishment for the Symphony of the Hills’ outstanding musicians. Anyone who loves orchestral music and the Texas Hill Country will want to be in the Kathleen Cailloux Theater for this special performance.

We will open the concert with a brilliant piece played by the symphony exactly twenty years ago at the end of their first season—Rimsky-Korsakov’s dramatic “Procession of the Nobles.” Following the Rimsky-Korsakov, we will feature concertmaster, Phil Johnson, assistant conductor and principal second violin, Pat Lee, assistant concertmaster Ryan Coppin and longtime symphony violinist Theresa Britt in a special performance of the rarely performed Antonio Vivaldi Concerto for Four Violins and Orchestra.

The finale of our 20th anniversary season is the majestic first movement of Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E Minor. We have all endured many challenges in the past year—may our musical offering be an inspiring reminder to our in-person and livestream audience of the resilience and power of music to help us express and know our deepest emotions and hope.
