The Symphony of the Hills celebrates the music of Western Swing, that delightful blend of country, big band swing, and blues that was named the official music of Texas in 2011! Over the years Western Swing has become a mainstay of Texas music with artists such as The Light Crust Doughboys, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, and in recent times with Asleep at the Wheel and the Dave Alexander Band. This concert features the talents of four-time Grammy-nominated Western Swing artist Dave Alexander. He and his group will bring classic Western Swing tunes to life with beautiful symphonic arrangements. This concert is not to be missed!
Dave Alexander is a Professional Musician and North Texas Rancher who has spent most of his life on a tour bus, on stage, or in a recording studio with some of the biggest names in Country Music, including George Strait, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Asleep At The Wheel, and Randy Travis.
His love for music lead him to follow in his father’s footsteps to study jazz at The University of North Texas. His father, Ashley, spent time in the horn section of Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys.
Dave formed his own Western Swing Band “The Legends of Western Swing,” reuniting the remaining living legends of Bob Wills’s Texas Playboys.
Dave created a production company to provide live music for special events in the DFW area. He performed at The Morton Meyerson Symphony Center, home of the Dallas Symphony; was Music Director for the Dallas Cowboys; was Conductor in residence at Southern Methodist University; and Conductor and Musical Director for The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League.
He created “Symphony of the West”–a full symphony show–as a tribute to the American Cowboy.
“Cowboy and Western music is some of the most beautiful music ever written and when performed by a symphony orchestra, there’s simply nothing like it.”
