New season concert lineup to be announced
The Symphony of the Hills will wrap its regular season on April 29, 2021, with The Majesty of Brahms, at Cailloux Theater in Kerrville. Tickets and information can be found online at www.symphonyofthehills.org. The concert lineup for the 2021-2022 season will be revealed during the concert program as well.
The final concert of our 20th anniversary season is a celebration of the symphony’s first-ever performance of a Brahms symphony,” according to Dr. Eugene Dowdy, Conductor and Artistic Director.
“Johannes Brahms proved himself the heir to the throne of Beethoven,” Dowdy said. “His powerful 4th Symphony will be a spectacular accomplishment for the Symphony of the Hills’ outstanding musicians. Anyone who loves orchestral music and the Texas Hill Country will want to be in the Cailloux Theater for this special performance.”
The concert opens with a piece played by the symphony 20 years ago—Rimsky-Korsakov’s Procession of the Nobles. That will be followed by Concerto for Four Violins by Antonio Vivaldi, featuring symphony concertmaster Phil Johnson, assistant conductor and principal second violin Pat Lee, assistant concertmaster Ryan Coppin, and symphony violinist Theresa Britt.
Due to limited and safely-distanced seating, very few tickets are available to the general public. They can be purchased online at www.symphonyofthehills.org, or by calling (830) 792-7469. Tickets can also be purchased through the Cailloux Theater web site: caillouxperformingarts.com/symphony-of-the-hills/
The orchestra will present two shortened concerts at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The auditorium will be thoroughly sanitized between concerts, and there will be a reduced-size orchestra with barriers and extra ventilation in place. Masks will be required, and spacing will be managed by ushers. There will be no wine reception before this concert.
This concert is sponsored by Broadway Bank and MacDonald Companies.
This season’s February concert–Homecoming–has been rescheduled to August 26, 2021. Homecoming features the return of former Symphony of the Hills violinist and soloist, Nancy Zhou, who has gone on to become a multi-award-winning concert artist with an international career. Pending seating arrangements and venue, ticket sales for the Homecoming concert will be announced at a later date.
This is the 20th Season for the Symphony of the Hills, a 75-piece orchestra of local and Hill Country area professional musicians and Schreiner University faculty and their advanced music students.
